GENERAL LEGAL QUESTIONS

What types of cases do you handle?

I handle cases at any stage. Whether my clients are in a pre-litigation position, where they are either looking to avoid or start a lawsuit, I have the ability to help them do either. I generally take litigation defense cases as they arise, with some clients contacting me before a lawsuit is filed, so afterwards. If someone wishes to contact me after they have been served with a lawsuit, it’s important that they get in touch with me as soon as possible because the Defense has to furnish what is called an Answer within 20 days of receiving service of process.
Since I have a background in transactional law, a large portion of my practice is devoted to helping my clients AVOID litigation, as it is often expensive, both monetarily and emotionally. I help my clients avoid litigation by helping them create strong contracts, engaging in pre-litigation with opposing counsel prior to a lawsuit being filed, and generally helping my clients solve legal problems that arise for them during the regular course of business.

Do you offer consultations before taking a case?

Yes. I offer up to a one-hour free consultation.

How much does it cost to hire you?

I charge $225/hr. I will sometimes take clients on a pro bono or “low bono” basis, but this is on a case-by-case basis and is usually reserved for people who cannot afford legal services to begin with.

Do you charge hourly or offer flat-fee pricing?

Usually I charge hourly, but I will offer flat fees for certain types of contracts or to do things like file a deed for my clients.

What courts do you appear in?

I usually practice in the district courts of the State of Oklahoma. Most of my work is in Oklahoma County, but I am not shy in taking cases from adjacent counties

Can you represent me outside of Oklahoma?

I can represent you if your subject matter (such as a property dispute) takes place in Oklahoma, but I am only licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma. I am able to serves Tribes from around the country. If you’re not sure if your matter has enough of a nexus with the State of Oklahoma in order for Oak & Stone to represent you, we can discuss this issue during the free consultation call.
